Eldar Rumors 2013.5.23: More Pics

Here are some more pictures from 3++. Sad face at the first one. Guess that answers that. Cool stuff otherwise. I'm liking Illic Nightspear more and more =)

  1. hmm makes me wonder that vyper is kinda close to the jetbikes... wonder if its a add on or if its just sitting close to the other models. I do have to say the old jetbikes makes me a sad panda. but I guess its conversion time and if I am going to use the swoop hood at least the kits are paired up nicely 3/3

  2. Yeah I was looking at that in the background. Seems like it would be out of unit cohesion hehe Just a nitpick though. I doubt the coherency means anything. I doubt Vypers sold well at all throughout fifth, so this would give a way to breath more life into those sales. I'd certainly run Vypers with GJBs if I could. GJBs don't have enough heavy weapon access. I think this would go a long way to help rebalance that.

I'd love to see the conversions when they're done. There's a lot can be done with the kit to make it better. I'd love to see where you go with it.

  3. sure I can post them or shoot you a email and you can post up the pictures on your blog if you want, my painting skills are not great though. as far as the vyper thing, there is one more thing it would do. having vypers attached to a squad of fast attack jet bikes would help allow people to take more variety. I feel the one thing the eldar codex really has as a huge problem is all the slots are so very full with a bunch of good choices. because there are so many specialists its hard to decide what to take and a lot of things get pulled out cause they are not great or you just dont have the slots for them.

  4. Sure I'd post them up if you'd like. Most painting is more about presentation than about technique in my opinion. Great results can come from a good process, even if you don't spend a fortnight blending. I think refined techniques only really show when you're spending 20-40 hours to paint a single infantry-sized figure.

Agreed on variety too. One of the things that has always turned me off of Saim-Hann armies is the lack of variety when I see a ton of basic Jetbikes. Maybe there's a JetCouncil. Maaaaybe Shining Spears, but the bulk is basic GJBs with some Shuriken Cannons. I'd like to see more different chassis in there, more spread throughout the army and with more variety in heavy weapons.

I sort of agree about the specialists thing, but I actually suspect that for many people they are just harder to use. Being specialists, they might end up being deadweight if you face a bad match up. The versatility of S6 firepower is why those builds emerged as the most commonly used toward the middle/end of 5th edition. It's easier because it works against almost everything. But our specialists still tear units apart when used right. You've just got to figure out how to compensate when one of them is not that useful against the enemy (like Fire Dragons vs Foot IG or Green Tide, for example).
